This little one saw fit to sun itself on our kitchen counter. Is it my imagination or in this image, can we see straight through its head via its ear-ducts? Probably just a light-trick. These are yet another benevolent forest influence we don’t often see around the backwater. They’re situated in the upper-middle field of the local food chain, and thus are reliable bug-eaters and make a healthy meal for the area serpentry and monitors.
It makes me happy to encounter animals like this skink so close to the front door. They wouldn’t come if the place were crawling with predators and it’s also a relief to know I can finger someone for failing to check the mosquito population.
